I totally fell off with all my reading, and I decided today that it's time to hop back on.

I've been a fan of Nietzsche's philosophies ever since I was first taught about them, and every time I pick up something he wrote I feel inspired all over again.

I'm reading a chapter in his book right now and here is a quote that really stuck with me. I'm gona try and post more as I keep up my reading.

I just read this in my "Teachings of the Buddha" book, and I really liked it and feel like it's an important point of view to consider...it's part of a poem called "No Self"::

The instructed disciple of the Noble Ones beholds of material shape, feeling, perception, the impulses, or consciousness: "This is not mine, this am I not, this is not my self." So that when the material shape, feeling, perception, the impulses, or consciousness change and become otherwise there arise not from him grief, sorrow, suffering, lamentation, and despair.

Know that you are of no more material value than your surroundings. Your emotions are not YOU. You do not belong to yourself. You belong to the universe. Once you let go of the physical attachment to yourself, you let go of the illusion that thought and emotion defines you as a human....it is what drives you. Once you accept that this drive is purely within the illusion of you having your own self, you will no long allow yourself to be driven by negativity....because your negativity doesn't even exist enough for it to push you one way or another.

I am on a quest. To learn how to cook. So I took one of my mom's cook books, and decided to make Beef Strogenov (an old Russian recipe) with egg noodles.

(if you can't look at it before it's cooked then u shouldn't eat it biatch!)

To go along with it I made a salad with endive lettuce, figs, and cherry tomatoes and a dressing made of olive oil, red wine vinegar, balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper, and rosemary...

And for dessert I made an apple gallette with whipped cream! My gallette kinda fell apart but I think it was a fairly successful first meal.

SO YESTERDAY I PASSED MY STATE BOARD OF COSMETOLOGY TEST AND OFFICIALLY BECAME A LICENSED COSMETOLOGIST!!!!!! YES THIS IS HELLA EXCITING. I'VE WANTED THIS FOR YEARS YEARS YEARS NOW AND I FINALLY GOT IT!! i was so happy when i found out that i burst into tears and my mom couldn't tell if i was happy or sad hahha!!

So to celebrate, my family took my out to dinner which was amazing, at the restaurant where my mom works in Downtown Oakland. So yeah, if you know me then you probably predicted it...but I'm totally copping out of this whole growing my hair out idea. I just decided short hair suits me better, and I am wayy too into having colorful hair to go back to natural. So I owe my friend $500 or something...yeah right. hahah

I think today I want to go to the beach and bring a sketchbook and one or the other of the books I'm reading. (The Holy Quran, or Beyond Good & Evil). Both intense books, but both very informative.

This is a timeline of every hair cut/color I've had my hair since I bought my laptop. I think it starts around March or April of 2007. I think it's pretty crazy, but maybe that's just because it's me. I dunoo...check it out:

I'm allowed to dye the ends so they match my roots, so I'm doing that in 2 days at school, then the adventures begin.

I think it will be a good exercise in self control over things that don't ACTUALLY matter!

Anyways, it's a little embarrassing for how much this blog exposes me as a total photobooth whore, but what can I say? I love that shit.

School is over in 6 weeks. What the fuck?! That's unreal. I am so excited and nervous, and...omg...just happy about it basically! Optimistic for sure.

FRIDAY:

Abbot Kinney first Fridays art shows. We were late, but it's ok. I was drunky drunk drunk and taking pictures of everyone haha...I met some really cool folks. I think I'm starting to figure out who the Venice Beach skate-lurks are, cause there are a couple who I keep seeing around and meeting...haha...

We went back to my house and hung out with people, and ZOE came! One of the best nights I've had so far in LA. I will definitely be back at the art shows next month. Here is a display of my drunkeness, and other things that happened that night...:

After that we ended up at this hotel on Ocean & Broadway called Shangri La in a room with Maryam, Moi, Asa, and Drew. It was such a nice room! We went to the Santa Monica boardwalk but there were no fireworks unfortunately...but it's cool. Went back to the house and chilled. Last night my friend Maryam took me to go to her friend Moi's house in Korea Town to get dinner. Moi lived in probably one of the cutest apartments I've ever seen. The area she lived in reminded me so much of New York. I really liked it. The food was delicious and the company was great!

I couldn't help but take pictures in the apartment. Everything seemed like it was set up to be photographed or something. She had a great record collection, great art/furniture, and super great eats. OOK, so, I went to Long Beach Pride yesterday. I have to say I was pretty disappointed. Not to be a negative nancy, but it just wasn't fun! There were 3 soundstages, and they were all just playing the same songs that you hear on the radio over and over and over again. It was $20 motherfucking dollars to get in! Like...omg, I have to pay to celebrate being gay? WOW. Also, once you get inside there's absolutely nothing to do unless you have extra money leftover from the fee to get in. Weird. Luckily my friend and I got hooked up by asking literally everyone we saw for a dollar and making enough money to pay for entry and some food and parking. HA.
I just can't wait for SF pride where being gay is free and WAY MORE FUN.

well, anyways,
i just got back from new york earlier this morning. ive been asleep all day because of the awkward timing of my flight. i had such weird dreams when i was asleep. i feel very unsettled right now, probably because of that, along with what i just "found out", along with the fact that i just feel generally unsettled lately. but its time to settle!

New York was amazing.
i took so many pictures, too many i think. ill be posting those soon.
the trip was incredibly inspiring. i went out there on my own, with a couple other girls from my class at school (sassoon academy) to assist for the sassoon creative team at the wella studio. working under the sassoon creative team was so incredible. i met so many people with amazing minds. i hope i can be in their places working with them one day. that would be a dream come true. it was almost a tease to be working near these people when i haven't even graduated from cosmetology school yet! when i post the pictures it will make more sense.

also, i stayed with my best friend ever! ZOE! i love zoe. shes the best person ever. i almost wanna cry because we're not hanging out right now. i fucking love her!!!!!!

Do you ever wonder who the unknown people in your dreams are?
Are they real people, or just complete figments of imagination?
Last night I had a really intense dream which was on a directly parallel stream to my life and emotions CURRENTLY. Although almost everyone in it truly does exist in my life [somewhat, at least] there was one person who does not, and I spent the majority of the dream with that person.
The subconscious mind intrigues me so much. Do we create these humans in our subconscious through time of seeing people with characteristics that we like or dislike, and combining them into an imaginary being that represents certain emotions to us? That could certainly be it.
It's incredible [both negatively and positively] how a dream can allow you to reach what your arm's length cannot, and make it feel so real. I could have gotten lost in my dream last night, with little desire to escape after the end's result.

i moved to santa monica about 3 days ago or something. it feels like i've been here longer. i set up my room in a house with some chill ass room mates, and started school yesterday. i've had one obstacle so far: BIKE CRASH
i was biking along broadway, coming home from the drug store and i had my bag around my handle bars. the bag got caught in my wheel and my bike stopped, and i didnt. my chin skidded along the pavement and my wind got knocked out. at first i couldn't get up, and i was just laying in the street trying to catch my breath, and this homeless man who could barely speak english was trying to help me. when i finally sat up blood started spilling out of my chin. someone drove by and pulled over, and gave me a towel for my face. he called an ambulance and they picked me up and told me i needed stitches, and eventually my elbow started hurting. i got to the hospital and one of my roommates met me there. the police questioned me. why? i have no idea. everyone in the hospital was asking me about it. how weird.
we were in the hospital for a good 4 hours. i got 17+ stitches in my chin, and my elbow is broken.
the next day i started beauty school at Vidal Sassoon Academy. so far it's cool. the people in my class are so funny!! we're already learning a ton of stuff, and today was only the second day. i can already tell i'd better be ready to soak up a shit load of knowledge. once my arm is healed [which hopefully will be soon] i'll be able to fully participate in my classes. one of the teachers already told me he'll give me a haircut, cause i want some shorter hair for SURE!!

i went to a dance class last night. it was really hard, probably because i haven't taken anything along the lines of ballet in yeeeeears. i enjoyed it, but i had to leave at the end because the choreography was just beyond anything i can do right now. the teacher was so odd though..Reggie Savage, or Mr. Savage as he prefers to be called. he just kept talking about how arrogant he is and what an ass hole he is. he didn't really seem that way to me though. it seemed like he spent more time talking about that then he did actually being that.
